Obituary for Reinhold E. Schmidt

 

Through his decades of commitment to the German Society of Immunology, including as its President in 2005 and 2006, Reinhold E. Schmidt has left an unmistakable mark on our specialist society. As an immunologist and rheumatologist with the highest national and international reputation, he has represented the field of immunology in research and clinical practice in a unique and prominent way, also through his many roles on supervisory and advisory boards in the German research landscape. His decades of commitment to the DGfI and its Academy of Immunology were unparalleled. Generations of immunologists will remember Reinhold Schmidt with great gratitude as a role model, teacher, mentor and colleague. We will all miss Reinhold very much as a friend and colleague.
